सर॑स्वति॒ त्वम॒स्माँ अ॑विड्ढि म॒रुत्व॑ती धृष॒ती जे॑षि॒ शत्रू॑न् । त्यं चि॒च्छर्ध॑न्तं तविषी॒यमा॑ण॒मिन्द्रो॑ हन्ति वृष॒भं शण्डि॑कानाम् ॥
सरस्वति त्वमस्माँ अविड्ढि मरुत्वती धृषती जेषि शत्रून् । त्यं चिच्छर्धन्तं तविषीयमाणमिन्द्रो हन्ति वृषभं शण्डिकानाम् ॥
sarasvati tvam asmām̐ aviḍḍhi marutvatī dhṛṣatī jeṣi śatrūn | tyaṃ cic chardhantaṃ taviṣīyamāṇam indro hanti vṛṣabhaṃ śaṇḍikānām ||
English translation:
“Sarasvatī, do you protect us; associated with the Maruts and firm (of purpose), overcome our foes, whiilst Indra slays the chief of the Śaṇḍikas, defying him and confiding in his strength.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Śaṇḍikas : vṛṣaqbham śaṇḍikānām, descendants of śaṇḍa, who, with Amarka, is the purohita, or priest of the asuras [śaṇḍāmarkāvasurapurohitau (Taittirīya Saṃhitā: 6.4.10.1)
