Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तमद्याहं पाण्डवं युद्धशौण्डममृष्यमाणो भवतानुशिष्टः ।
आशीविषं दृष्टिहरं सुघोरमियां पुरस्कृत्य वधं जयं वा ॥ २३ ॥

tamadyāhaṃ pāṇḍavaṃ yuddhaśauṇḍamamṛṣyamāṇo bhavatānuśiṣṭaḥ |
āśīviṣaṃ dṛṣṭiharaṃ sughoramiyāṃ puraskṛtya vadhaṃ jayaṃ vā || 23 ||
