Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स च्छिन्नधन्वा समरे गदां गुर्वीं महायशाः ।
द्रोणाय प्रेषयामास गिरिसारमयीं बली ॥ १८ ॥

sa cchinnadhanvā samare gadāṃ gurvīṃ mahāyaśāḥ |
droṇāya preṣayāmāsa girisāramayīṃ balī || 18 ||
