Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स ते विक्रमशौण्डीरो रणे पार्थं विजेष्यति ।
कर्णः प्रहरतां श्रेष्ठः सर्वांश्चारीन्महारथः ॥ २० ॥

sa te vikramaśauṇḍīro raṇe pārthaṃ vijeṣyati |
karṇaḥ praharatāṃ śreṣṭhaḥ sarvāṃścārīnmahārathaḥ || 20 ||
