Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. त्वगस्थिमांसं शुक्रं च शोणितं च महामते ।
शरीरं वर्जयन्त्येते जीवितेन विवर्जितम् ॥ २२ ॥

tvagasthimāṃsaṃ śukraṃ ca śoṇitaṃ ca mahāmate |
śarīraṃ varjayantyete jīvitena vivarjitam || 22 ||
