Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. एकादशाहैरयजं सदक्षिणैर्द्विर्द्वादशाहैरश्वमेधैश्च देव ।
आर्कायणैः षोडशभिश्च ब्रह्मंस्तेषां फलेनेह न चागतोऽस्मि ॥ ३१ ॥

ekādaśāhairayajaṃ sadakṣiṇairdvirdvādaśāhairaśvamedhaiśca deva |
ārkāyaṇaiḥ ṣoḍaśabhiśca brahmaṃsteṣāṃ phaleneha na cāgato'smi || 31 ||
