Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. मया संमन्त्र्य पश्चाच्च न हिंस्याः सचिवास्त्वया ।
मदीयानां च कुपितो मा त्वं दण्डं निपातयेः ॥ ३८ ॥

mayā saṃmantrya paścācca na hiṃsyāḥ sacivāstvayā |
madīyānāṃ ca kupito mā tvaṃ daṇḍaṃ nipātayeḥ || 38 ||
