Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अल्पं च बलमेतेषां कृष्णौ च भृशविक्षतौ ।
यदि सर्वेऽत्र तिष्ठामो ध्रुवो नो विजयो भवेत् ॥ ५७ ॥

alpaṃ ca balameteṣāṃ kṛṣṇau ca bhṛśavikṣatau |
yadi sarve'tra tiṣṭhāmo dhruvo no vijayo bhavet || 57 ||
