Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विप्रयातांस्तु वो भिन्नान्पाण्डवाः कृतकिल्बिषान् ।
अनुसृत्य हनिष्यन्ति श्रेयो नः समरे स्थितम् ॥ ५८ ॥
