श्री-नारद उवाच
सैव शूर्पनखा नाम राक्षसी काम-रूपिणी
अभूच् छ्री-मथुरायां तु
कुब्जा-नाम महा-मते
śrī-nārada uvāca
saiva śūrpanakhā nāma rākṣasī kāma-rūpiṇī
abhūc chrī-mathurāyāṃ tu
kubjā-nāma mahā-mate
śrī-nārada uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; sā—she; eva—indeed; śūrpanakhā—Śūrpanakhā; nāma—named; rākṣasī—demonness; kāma-rūpiṇī—taking any form she wished; abhūt—became; śrī-mathurāyām—in Śrī Mathurā; tu—indeed; kubjā-nāma—named Kubjā; mahā-mate—O noble-hearted one.
English translation of verse 5.11.10:
Śrī Nārada said: O noble-hearted one, in Mathurā City the demonness Śūrpanakhā, who could assume any form at will, became the girl named Kubjā.
