श्री-नारद उवाच
व्रजे शोणपुराधिशो
गोपो नन्दो धनी महान्
भार्याः पञ्च सहस्राणि
बभूवुस् तस्य मैथिल
śrī-nārada uvāca
vraje śoṇapurādhiśo
gopo nando dhanī mahān
bhāryāḥ pañca sahasrāṇi
babhūvus tasya maithila
śrī-nārada uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; vraje—in Vraja; śoṇapurādhiśaḥ—the king of Sonapura; gopaḥ—a gopa; nandaḥ—Nanda; dhanī—wealthy; mahān—exalted; bhāryāḥ—wives; pañca sahasrāṇi—five thousand; babhūvuḥ—were; tasya—of him; maithila—O king of Mithilā.
English translation of verse 4.15.1:
Śrī Nārada said: O king of Mithilā, in Vraja lived a righteous and wealthy gopa named Nanda, who had been the king of Śoṇapura. He had five thousand wives.
