The Garga-samhita Verse 4.15.1, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 4 of Chapter 15 (The Story of the Women of Barhishmati-pura, the Apsaras, and the Women of Sutala and Nagendra) of Canto 4 (madhurya-khanda).

श्री-नारद उवाच
व्रजे शोणपुराधिशो
गोपो नन्दो धनी महान्
भार्याः पञ्च सहस्राणि
बभूवुस् तस्य मैथिल

śrī-nārada uvāca
vraje śoṇapurādhiśo
gopo nando dhanī mahān
bhāryāḥ pañca sahasrāṇi
babhūvus tasya maithila

śrī-nārada uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; vraje—in Vraja; śoṇapurādhiśaḥ—the king of Sonapura; gopaḥa gopa; nandaḥNanda; dhanīwealthy; mahānexalted; bhāryāḥ—wives; pañca sahasrāṇi—five thousand; babhūvuḥ—were; tasya—of him; maithilaO king of Mithilā.

English translation of verse 4.15.1:

Śrī Nārada said: O king of Mithilā, in Vraja lived a righteous and wealthy gopa named Nanda, who had been the king of Śoṇapura. He had five thousand wives.
