महेन्द्र-याग-सम्भार-
चयं दृष्ट्वैकदा हरिः
नन्दं पप्रच्छ सदसि
बल्लवानां च शृण्वताम्
mahendra-yāga-sambhāra-
cayaṃ dṛṣṭvaikadā hariḥ
nandaṃ papraccha sadasi
ballavānāṃ ca śṛṇvatām
mahendra-yāga-sambhāra-cayam—the arrangements for the indra-yajña; dṛṣṭva—seeing; ekadā—one day; hariḥ—Kṛṣṇa; nandam—to Nanda; papraccha—asked; sadasi—in the assmbly; ballavānām—of gopas; ca—and; śṛṇvatām—listening.
English translation of verse 3.1.4:
Noticing the arrangements for the indra-yajñ, as the gopas listened, Kṛṣṇa asked a question of King Nanda.
