This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.8

सर्वमनवद्यगात्रो ऋद्धीमां सौम्यको विशालाक्षो ।
तद् एव तस्य नामं अभूषि श्यामो ति तं कालं ॥ ८ ॥

sarvamanavadyagātro ṛddhīmāṃ saumyako viśālākṣo |
tad eva tasya nāmaṃ abhūṣi śyāmo ti taṃ kālaṃ || 8 ||

Of wholly faultless body was he, possessing magic power, gentle, and having large eyes. Now his name at that time was Shyama. (8)
