This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 2.11

अयोमयेहि दण्डेहि स्थूलनरकपालकाः ।
हनन्ति प्रत्यमित्राणि ये भोन्ति कृतकिल्विषा ॥ ११ ॥

ayomayehi daṇḍehi sthūlanarakapālakāḥ |
hananti pratyamitrāṇi ye bhonti kṛtakilviṣā || 11 ||

With scourges of iron the ruthless warders of hell (naraka-pala) mercilessly beat those who have sinned. (11)
