God is in Everyone and Everywhere

Ramakrishna Chitrapu

“Where is God” How often do we come across this question from educated and the well read? How many times do we ask this question to ourselves? A question, probably we cannot answer with our limited knowledge of life and death.

When some thing unexpected and unexplained happens we scream involuntarily “Oh my God”. Is God different for each one? Otherwise why don’t we say “Oh God” instead of “my God” as if He is our exclusive possession.

Medical profession has its own doubts about the re-incarnation and in the existence of God and their answer to what happens after death is as simple as “what happens when the clock fails”, it stops, if it can be repaired it will work. They consider the life and the body as if human beings are mechanical toys which start working once the batteries are replaced. They forget for a minute that they are just pigmies before the great creator. They talk of arousal and consciousness. Who is the one who feels the consciousness? They really do not know what it is that enters the body when the child comes out of the womb or what goes out of the body when it dies. When life ebbs out of the patient right in front of their eyes they have no clue as to what went out of the body to make it lifeless.

The scientist feels that he has conquered and mastered Nature. An earthquake or a Tsunami throws him out of balance and he is at the bottom of the Pacific. He says it is Nature at its worst fury. But he would not accept anything like a Divine Power. He does not agree with anyone’s view that the same unexplainable occurrences in nature could be named Acts of God. He does not concede that there is something beyond his reach.

The visit by the man-made Space Vehicles into the inter-stellar space and far away galaxies, billions of miles away, tells us that the space is unending. God in the game of hide and seek cannot be physically found by an ordinary human being. In Bhagavad-Gita Lord Krishna shows his Viswa Rupa to Arjuna. Arjuna becomes speechless and says he could see neither the beginning nor the end of His body and he saw the whole universe in Him and the sight was so scary that he was unable to see the Viswa Rupa and requests Krishna to come to his normal self.

Space vehicles have gone out of the solar system and they are still traveling in the vastness of empty space at incredible speed and there is no end. Still they could not see anything except the vast empty space and galaxies billions and trillions of miles away. Who created this? Why and what is the purpose of this creation? Just because we cannot find answers to our questions can we question the existence of God.

We have Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. We have Eric Von Dan ken questioning the same. Our search continues to explore the mysteries of nature and unable to find any concrete evidence of the existence of God. The efforts cannot find God the Creator because we are searching for Him in the wrong places.

For a common man God exists but where and how to find Him is the real problem. We offer prayers. Every one wants to have a vision of God. We are not sure in our belief and lack faith in Advaita. We want to believe in one God but we are timid and skeptic. We are afraid that if we offer prayers in the name of one God the other Gods may not bestow their blessings on us. We end up keeping dozens of the pictures and idols of God with different names in our Pooja Place/Room. We even include Photos or idols in Pooja Mantap of the Self-proclaimed Human Gods, quite often much larger than the God himself/herself. God is one. We call him by different names. Father, mother and his brothers call a child by different names. He is not different. It is the same child. It is this lack of understanding of the basic truth that often throws us into confusion.

A few friends asked me after my Yatra to Mt Kailash and a dip in the Sacred Lake Manasa Sarovar. “Did you see God there?” I told them, “There is God in everything you see there. There is serenity, love, peace and every second you see the Mother of Creation with all her love, compassion and concern looking at you. Laser beams may create the image of an individual with moon as drop to claim as God, but not the vision of God. One has to yearn for him, love him and cry for his vision. First we have to understand ourselves.” One must have conviction and belief. A skeptic can never find God. Doubting Thomas will always doubt  everything.

I had a vision of a young girl aged between 8 and 10 years appearing continuously during the years 1995/96 in a couple of my meditation sessions. She was just a human being but something special about her. The same girl with sparkling eyes and a beauty of her own appeared right before my eyes in flesh and blood (worshipped as a Goddess Bala Kumari in Khatmandu) in 2003 in Khatmandu. If you ask me “did you see the goddess” my answer is simple “yes”. For me it is no other than the Goddess Bala Tripura Sundari. How am I concerned what the others feel about it?

On another occasion I went to Tirupathi from Madras where I was working, forgetting that those were Brahmotsavam days of the Lord. My brother was working as the Principal of the College there. So, I never had any difficulty in having the Darshan of the Lord. But at that time my brother went to our native place with his family. So, I Just stood in the temple premises and looked at the Vimana Venkateswara, closed my eyes and prayed with all my heart “Why are you harsh with  me? Why are you denying me your Darshan?” When I opened my eyes some stranger came to me and asked me, “Do you want to have a Darshan of the Lord?” I said with a sort of disbelief “yes”. He said to me, “Come with me.” I followed him and he took me to the special queue and I had the Darshan of the Lord. I turned to thank the stranger but he was not there. Was it just my imagination? No. I do not think so. He has been the one who was deputed by the almighty to fulfill my wish. That is how I take it. That is my faith in God.

When we go to the Temple and have Darshan of the Lord, people have different vibrations and they are not the same for all. Let us be honest. When we go for the Darshan, our mind and thoughts are filled with what we should ask God for and at what price (in the form of Vows, if you give me that I will do this etc). We do not even look straight into the eyes of the idol and we close our eyes and start asking God for all the material things in the world. At that time our desire to have a vision of God is replaced by our strong desire to possess all the material things and riches or cure for our illnesses with a belief that these materialistic things would give us happiness in life. By the time we open our eyes we are already pushed out of the sanctum sanctorum by the crowds in the line.

To prove the existence of God may not be possible for an ordinary human being. It is something, which is to be felt and experienced. A Doctor may say, “Now we are also creating life with advanced research and hiring human wombs etc to help childless mothers to have babies.” My answer is simple, “Let them bring to life a person who is declared dead. Even then my faith in God continues. He is the one who is behind all this Cosmic Drama and He is the Producer and Director of the whole creation.
