223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.92.10

पूर्वेभ्यस्तु प्रयत्नेभ्यो विषमोऽयं हि संस्मृतः ।
दुःसाध्यो वासनात्यागः सुमेरून्मूलनादपि ॥ १० ॥

pūrvebhyastu prayatnebhyo viṣamo'yaṃ hi saṃsmṛtaḥ |
duḥsādhyo vāsanātyāgaḥ sumerūnmūlanādapi || 10 ||

Of all others which have been said before, it is the most difficult task to get rid of one's earthly desires; and it is impossible to root them out of the mind, as it is to uproot the mount Meru from its basis.
