The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.91.26

योगिनश्चित्तशान्त्यर्थं कुर्वन्ति प्राणरोधनम् ।
प्राणायामैस्तथा ध्यानैः प्रयोगैर्युक्तिकल्पितैः ॥ २६ ॥

yoginaścittaśāntyarthaṃ kurvanti prāṇarodhanam |
prāṇāyāmaistathā dhyānaiḥ prayogairyuktikalpitaiḥ || 26 ||

The meditative Yogi is practised to the suppression of his breath for the peace of his mind, and conducts his pranayama or restraint of respiration, and his dhyana or intense meditation, according to the directions of his spiritual guide and the precepts of the sastras.
