The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.77.31

मृतिर्गुणितिरस्कारो जीवितं गुणिसंश्रयः ।
फलं स्वर्गापवर्गादि जीविताद्गुणिसंश्रितात् ॥ ३१ ॥

mṛtirguṇitiraskāro jīvitaṃ guṇisaṃśrayaḥ |
phalaṃ svargāpavargādi jīvitādguṇisaṃśritāt || 31 ||

To be despised by the wise is death, and to be honoured by the learned is true life; because it is the society of the sapient only, that makes the life bring forth its fruits of heavenly bliss and final beatitude.
