The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.4.30

यमकायोपमाश्यामा ययौ तिमिरमांसला ।
आययौ मिहिकास्फारा तत्र तेषामुषः शनैः ॥ ३० ॥

yamakāyopamāśyāmā yayau timiramāṃsalā |
āyayau mihikāsphārā tatra teṣāmuṣaḥ śanaiḥ || 30 ||

As the thick darkness of night, resembling the dark complexion of death, receded from the arena of the skies, there followed close on its foot-steps the dewy dawn of the day with her slow moving pace.
