The Sanskrit edition of the Patañjali: Yogasūtra with Bhāṣya (= Pātañjalayogaśāstra). Based on the edition by Kāśinātha Śāstrī Āgāśe. The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali is a collection of Sanskrit aphorisms (Sūtras) on the theory and practice of Yoga. It includes the theory of ashtanga (eight elements of practice culminating in samadhi)—Yama (abstinences), Niyama (observances), Āsana (yoga posture), Prāṇāyāma (breath control), Pratyāhāra (withdrawal of the senses), Dhāraṇā (concentration of the mind), Dhyāna (meditation) and Samādhi (absorption).

Sūtra 1.43

yadā punaḥ śabdasaṃketasmṛtipariśuddhau śrutānumānajñānavikalpaśūnyāyāṃ samādhiprajñāyāṃ svarūpamātreṇāvasthito'rthastatsvarūpākāramātratayaivāvacchidyate. ca nirvitarkā samāpattiḥ. tatparaṃ pratyakṣam. tacca śrutānumānayorbījam. tataḥ śrutānumāne prabhavataḥ. na ca śrutānumānajñānasahabhūtaṃ taddarśanam. tasmādasaṃkīrṇaṃ praṃmāṇāntareṇa yogino nirvitarkasamādhijaṃ darśanamiti. nirvitarkāyāḥ samāpatterasyāḥ sūtreṇa lakṣaṇaṃ dyotyate --- smṛtipariśuddhau svarūpaśūnyevārthamātranirbhāsā nirvitarkā || YS_1.43 ||

śabdasaṃketaśrutānumānajñānavikalpasmṛtipariśuddhau grāhyasvarūpa.uparaktā prajñā svamiva prajñāsvarūpaṃ grahaṇātmakaṃ tyaktvā padārthamātrasvarūpā grāhyasvarūpāpanneva bhavati tadā nirvitarkā samāpattiḥ. tathā ca vyākyātaṃ tasyā ekabuddhyupakramo hyarthātmāṇupracayaviśeṣātmā gavādirghaṭādirvā lokaḥ. sa ca saṃsthānaviśeṣo bhūtasūkṣmāṇāṃ sādhāraṇo dharma ātmabhūtaḥ phalena vyaktenānumitaḥ svavyañjakāñjanaḥ prādurbhavati. dharmāntarasya kapālāderudaye ca tirobhavati. sa eṣa dharmo'vayavītyucyate. yo'sāvekaśca mahāṃścāṇīṃyaśca sparśavāṃśca kriyādharmakaścānityaśca tenāvayavinā vyavahārāḥ kriyante. yasya punaravastukaḥ sa pracayaviśeṣaḥ. sūkṣmaṃ ca kāraṇamanupalabhyamavikalpasya tasyāvayavyabhāvādatadrūpapratiṣṭhaṃ mithyājñānamiti prāyeṇa sarvameva prāptaṃ mithyājñānamiti. tadā ca samyagjñānamapi kiṃ syādviṣayābhāvāt. yad yadupalabhyate tattadavayavitvenāmnātam. tasmādastyavayavī yo mahattvādivyavahārāpannaḥ samāpatternirvitarkāyā viṣayī bhavati. 1.43
