The Sanskrit edition of the Patañjali: Yogasūtra with Bhāṣya (= Pātañjalayogaśāstra). Based on the edition by Kāśinātha Śāstrī Āgāśe. The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali is a collection of Sanskrit aphorisms (Sūtras) on the theory and practice of Yoga. It includes the theory of ashtanga (eight elements of practice culminating in samadhi)—Yama (abstinences), Niyama (observances), Āsana (yoga posture), Prāṇāyāma (breath control), Pratyāhāra (withdrawal of the senses), Dhāraṇā (concentration of the mind), Dhyāna (meditation) and Samādhi (absorption).

Sūtra 1.32

athaite vikṣepāḥ samādhipratipakṣāstābhyāmevābhyāsavairāgyābhyāṃ niroddhavyāḥ. tatrābhyāsasya viṣayamupasaṃharannidamāha --- tatpratiṣedhārthamekatattvābhyāsaḥ || YS_1.32 ||

vikṣepapratiṣedhārthamekatattvāvalambanaṃ cittamabhyaset. yasya tu pratyarthaniyataṃ pratyayamātraṃ kṣaṇikaṃ ca cittaṃ tasya sarvameva cittamekāgraṃ nāstyeva vikṣiptam. yadi punaridaṃ sarvataḥ pratyāhṛtyaikasminnarthe samādhīyate tadā bhavatyekāgramityato na pratyarthaniyatam. yo'pi sadṛśapratyayapravāhena cittamekāgraṃ manyate tasyaikāgratā yadi pravāhacittasya dharmastadaikaṃ nāsti pravāhacittaṃ kṣaṇikatvāt. atha pravāhāṃśasyaiva pratyayasya dharmaḥ, sa sarvaḥ sadṛśapratyayapravāhī visadṛśapratyayapravāhī pratyarthaniyatatvādekāgra eveti vikṣiptacittānupapattiḥ. tasmādekamanekārthamavasthitaṃ cittamiti. yadi ca cittenaikenānanvitāḥ svabhāvabhinnāḥ pratyayā jāyerannatha kathamanyapratyayadṛṣṭasyānyaḥ smartā bhavet. anyapratyayopacitasya ca karmāśayasyānyaḥ pratyaya upabhoktā bhavet. kathaṃcitsamādhīyamānamapyetadgomayapāyasīyanyāyamākṣipati. kiṃ ca svātmānubhavāpahnavaścittasyānyatve prāpnoti. katham, yadahamadrākṣaṃ tatspṛśāmi yaccāsprākṣaṃ tatpaśyāmītyahamiti pratyayaḥ sarvasya pratyayasya bhede sati pratyayinyabhedenopasthitaḥ. ekapratyayaviṣayo'yamabhedātmāhamiti pratyayaḥ kathamatyantabhinneṣu citteṣu vartamānaḥ sāmānyamekaṃ pratyayinamāśrayet. svānubhavagrāhyaścāyamabhedātmāhamiti pratyayaḥ. na ca pratyakṣasya māhātmyaṃ pramāṇāntareṇābhibhūyate. pramāṇāntaraṃ ca pratyakṣabalenaiva vyavahāraṃ labhate. tasmādekamanekārthamavasthitaṃ ca cittam. 1.32
