The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.3.18; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

आलोक-दानजः, यथा स्कान्दे —
अदृष्ट-पूर्वम् आलोक्य कृष्णं जाङ्गल-वासिनः ।
विक्लिद्यद्-अन्तरात्मनो दृष्टिं नाक्रष्टुम् ईशिरे ॥१.३.१८॥

āloka-dānajaḥ, yathā skānde —
adṛṣṭa-pūrvam ālokya kṛṣṇaṃ jāṅgala-vāsinaḥ |
viklidyad-antarātmano dṛṣṭiṃ nākraṣṭum īśire
||1.3.18||

English translation

Giving mercy by showing Himself is illustrated in the Skanda Purāṇa:
“When they saw Kṛṣṇa, who appeared like nothing they had seen before, the hearts of the residents of Jāṅgala melted and they could not take their eyes away from His form.”
