अ॒क्षास॒ इद॑ङ्कु॒शिनो॑ नितो॒दिनो॑ नि॒कृत्वा॑न॒स्तप॑नास्तापयि॒ष्णव॑: । कु॒मा॒रदे॑ष्णा॒ जय॑तः पुन॒र्हणो॒ मध्वा॒ सम्पृ॑क्ताः कित॒वस्य॑ ब॒र्हणा॑ ॥
अक्षास इदङ्कुशिनो नितोदिनो निकृत्वानस्तपनास्तापयिष्णवः । कुमारदेष्णा जयतः पुनर्हणो मध्वा सम्पृक्ताः कितवस्य बर्हणा ॥
akṣāsa id aṅkuśino nitodino nikṛtvānas tapanās tāpayiṣṇavaḥ | kumāradeṣṇā jayataḥ punarhaṇo madhvā sampṛktāḥ kitavasya barhaṇā ||
English translation:
“Dice verily are armed with hooks, with goads, pricking, paining and torturing (the gamester); to thewinning (plural yer) they are the givers of sons, they are tipped with honey; slaying him in return by taking away thegambler's (all).”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
They are the givers of sons: by acquiring wealth through their means a family may be reared; bytaking the gambler's all: barhaṇa = parivṛddheṇa sarvasvaharaṇena
