Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तमाकलितकेशान्तं ददृशुः सर्वपार्थिवाः ।
उक्षाणमिव सिंहेन पात्यमानमचेतनम् ॥ ५५ ॥

tamākalitakeśāntaṃ dadṛśuḥ sarvapārthivāḥ |
ukṣāṇamiva siṃhena pātyamānamacetanam || 55 ||
