Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स्नात्वा कुरुवरश्रेष्ठ प्रयतात्मा तु मानवः ।
तर्प्य देवान्पितॄंश्चैव विष्णुलोके महीयते ॥ ९३ ॥

snātvā kuruvaraśreṣṭha prayatātmā tu mānavaḥ |
tarpya devānpitṝṃścaiva viṣṇuloke mahīyate || 93 ||
