Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तं सत्यसंधं सहिताभिपेतुर्दिदृक्षवश्चारणसिद्धसंघाः ।
वनौकसश्चापि नरेन्द्रसिंहं मनस्विनं संपरिवार्य तस्थुः ॥ २२ ॥

taṃ satyasaṃdhaṃ sahitābhipeturdidṛkṣavaścāraṇasiddhasaṃghāḥ |
vanaukasaścāpi narendrasiṃhaṃ manasvinaṃ saṃparivārya tasthuḥ || 22 ||
