Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. षडाननं कुमारं तं द्विषडक्षं द्विजप्रियम् ।
पीनांसं द्वादशभुजं पावकादित्यवर्चसम् ॥ १८ ॥

ṣaḍānanaṃ kumāraṃ taṃ dviṣaḍakṣaṃ dvijapriyam |
pīnāṃsaṃ dvādaśabhujaṃ pāvakādityavarcasam || 18 ||
