Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

मुह्यता तु मनुष्येण प्रष्टव्याः सुहृदो बुधाः ।
ते च पृष्टा यथा ब्रूयुस्तत्कर्तव्यं तथा भवेत् ॥ ३० ॥

muhyatā tu manuṣyeṇa praṣṭavyāḥ suhṛdo budhāḥ |
te ca pṛṣṭā yathā brūyustatkartavyaṃ tathā bhavet || 30 ||
