Ayurveda (science of life)
Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanySamānavāyu (समानवायु):—A Sanskrit technical term referring to “stimulating digestive fire”, it is one of the five upadoṣa (sub functions) of Vāta or Vāyu (one of the three doṣas). A doṣa is a basic component of life. The compound Samānavāyu is composed of the words Samāna (‘universal’ or ‘pervading’) and Vāyu (‘breath’). It is also known as Samānavāta. These terms are used throughout Ayurvedic literature such as the Caraka-saṃhitā and the Suśruta-saṃhitā. Āyurveda is India’s classical science of medicine.

Its functions consist in digesting the chyme brought down into the intestines in unison with the digestive ferment (Agni), and especially in disintegrating its essence from its refuse or excreted matter. A deranged or aggravated condition of the Samána Váyu causes dysentery, Gulma, and impaired digestion, etc.
The Samāna is the same as the energy of the epigastric plexus.
