Summary: This current book, the Nidana-sthana (english translation), is the second part of this voluminous medical work. It deals with diseases: their prognosis, their cause, their symptoms and their pathogenesis (development of the disease).

The Sushruta Samhita is the most representative work of the Hindu system of medicine. It embraces all that can possibly appertain to the science of medicine. Susruta-samhita is recognized as the first authoritative book on Ayurveda, and is described as a subdivision (Upanga) of the Atharvan.

The sanskrit title is सुश्रुतसंहिता: निदानस्थान, or transliterated: "Suśruta-saṃhitā: Nidānasthāna"
