by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 112.8

तं च सो ऋषिं अद्दर्शि सहायं पान्सुक्रीडकं ।
दृष्ट्वा च श्रोणकं तस्मिं इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ८ ॥

taṃ ca so ṛṣiṃ addarśi sahāyaṃ pānsukrīḍakaṃ |
dṛṣṭvā ca śroṇakaṃ tasmiṃ idaṃ vacanam abravīt || 8 ||

And there he saw the seer, his former friend and playmate, and on seeing Shronaka there he thus spoke to him. (8)
