Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 110.16

यो चैकं भावितात्मानं मुहूर्तम् अपि पूजयेत् ।
सा एकपूजना श्रेयो न च वर्षशतं हुतं ॥ १६ ॥

yo caikaṃ bhāvitātmānaṃ muhūrtam api pūjayet |
sā ekapūjanā śreyo na ca varṣaśataṃ hutaṃ || 16 ||

A man may, too, for just one moment worship one in whom the self is developed—that one act of worship is worth more than a hundred years of sacrificing. (16)
