Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 75.33

विल्वारनारिकेरा मोचा पनसा च तालखर्जूरा ।
जंबीरा च मातुलुंगा न कंचि कालं न दृश्यन्ति ॥ ३३ ॥

vilvāranārikerā mocā panasā ca tālakharjūrā |
jaṃbīrā ca mātuluṃgā na kaṃci kālaṃ na dṛśyanti || 33 ||

There were campaka trees crowned with leaves, and hushes of flowering fragrant mango, with various other flowering trees alive with the hum of honey-making bees. (33)
