The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.20.21

न जीवितान्न मरणात्कर्मदेहस्य रोधनम् ।
यथा स्थितेन तिष्ठामस्तथैवास्तंगतेहिताः ॥ २१ ॥

na jīvitānna maraṇātkarmadehasya rodhanam |
yathā sthitena tiṣṭhāmastathaivāstaṃgatehitāḥ || 21 ||

We neither wish to live long to wallow in our bodily enjoyments nor desire death to avoid the retribution of our acts; but live as long as we have to live, and die when death comes upon us.
