Sanskrit text and transliteration:
यस्मात्स्वयमिदं सर्वमकरोन्निपुणः प्रभुः ।
सुकृतं प्रभुमेवातो महात्मानः प्रचक्षते ॥ ४१८ ॥
yasmātsvayamidaṃ sarvamakaronnipuṇaḥ prabhuḥ |
sukṛtaṃ prabhumevāto mahātmānaḥ pracakṣate || 418 ||
English translation of verse 2.418:
Inasmuch as the expert Lord created all this (world) by Himself, the great, therefore, call Him as Sukṛta, the Self-creator.
Notes:
This verse explains the meaning of the text tasmāttat-sukṛtamucyata iti.
Brahman alone is the cause of the world, for without the help of anything else, Īśvara has created the world. Īśvara is both the material and the efficient cause rolled into one. There exists nothing over and above Brahman—neither a material cause (upādāna-kāraṇa) of the world similar today, nor an efficient cause (nimitta-kāraṇa) like a potter. Since Īśvara has created the world by Himself, He is called the Selfcreator. The word sukṛtam means svayaṃ kartṛ (suśabdo'tra svayaṃśabda-paryāyaḥ, kṛtaśabdaḥ kartṛśabda-paryāyaḥ, sukṛtaṃ svayaṃ kartṛ brahma).
