The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.38; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

यथोत्तरम् असौ स्वाद-विशेषोल्लासमय्य् अपि ।
रतिर् वासनया स्वाद्वी भासते कापि कस्यचित् ॥२.५.३८॥

yathottaram asau svāda-viśeṣollāsamayy api |
ratir vāsanayā svādvī bhāsate kāpi kasyacit
||2.5.38||

English translation

“These five types of rati (from śuddha to priyatā-rati) become progressively more blissful by increasing tastes. The particular taste arises in a devotee according to his previous experiences.”
