Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

तस्मान्मा त्वं सरिच्छ्रेष्ठे शोचस्व कुरुनन्दनम् ।
वसूनेष गतो देवि पुत्रस्ते विज्वरा भव ॥ ३२ ॥

tasmānmā tvaṃ saricchreṣṭhe śocasva kurunandanam |
vasūneṣa gato devi putraste vijvarā bhava || 32 ||
