Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अधर्मः क्षत्रियस्यैष यच्छय्यामरणं भवेत् ।
विसृजञ्श्लेष्मपित्तानि कृपणं परिदेवयन् ॥ २३ ॥

adharmaḥ kṣatriyasyaiṣa yacchayyāmaraṇaṃ bhavet |
visṛjañśleṣmapittāni kṛpaṇaṃ paridevayan || 23 ||
