Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तस्य दीप्तशरौघस्य दीप्तचापधरस्य च ।
शरौघाञ्शरजालेन विदुधाव धनंजयः ।
अस्त्रमस्त्रेण संवार्य प्राणदद्विसृजञ्शरान् ॥ ५२ ॥

tasya dīptaśaraughasya dīptacāpadharasya ca |
śaraughāñśarajālena vidudhāva dhanaṃjayaḥ |
astramastreṇa saṃvārya prāṇadadvisṛjañśarān || 52 ||
