वत्स-पाल-मिषेनापि
स्वात्मानं ह्य् आत्मना हरेः
पालितो वत्सरश् चैको
बभूव व्रज-मण्डले
vatsa-pāla-miṣenāpi
svātmānaṃ hy ātmanā hareḥ
pālito vatsaraś caiko
babhūva vraja-maṇḍale
vatsa-pāla—of being gopa boys; miṣena—on the preText; api—also; svātmānam—Himself; hi—indeed; ātmanā—Himself; hareḥ—of Lord Kṛṣṇa; pālitaḥ—protected; vatsaraḥ—year; ca—and; ekaḥ—one; babhūva—was; vraja-maṇḍale—in the circle of Vraja.
English translation of verse 2.8.12:
In the circle of Vraja one year passed with Kṛṣṇa disguising Himself as both the calves and gopas. He was the calves and He was the gopas protecting the calves.
