Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:
भुक्त्वात्य्-उद्विग्न-मनसः
सर्वे वयम् अतः किल
एवं पृथक् पृथक् सर्वे
दर्शयन्तः स्व-भोजनम्
bhuktvāty-udvigna-manasaḥ
sarve vayam ataḥ kila
evaṃ pṛthak pṛthak sarve
darśayantaḥ sva-bhojanam
bhuktvā—eating; aty-udvigna-manasaḥ—very unhappy at heart; sarve—all; vayam—we; ataḥ—therefore; kila—indeed; evam—thus; pṛthak pṛthak—individually; sarve—all; darśayantaḥ—showing; sva-bhojanam—own lunch.
English translation of verse 2.7.23:
"by eating this we have all become very unhappy at heart." In this way each boy showed his lunch to the others.
