श्री-नारद उवाच
एकदा चारयन् वत्सान्
स-रामो बालकैर् हरिः
यमुना-निकटे प्राप्तं
बाकं दैत्यं ददर्श ह

śrī-nārada uvāca
ekadā cārayan vatsān
sa-rāmo bālakair hariḥ
yamunā-nikaṭe prāptaṃ
bākaṃ daityaṃ dadarśa ha

śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; ekadāonce; cārayan—herding; vatsān—the calves; sa-rāmaḥwith Balarāma; bālakaiḥ—with the boys; hariḥKṛṣṇa; yamunā-nikaṭe—near the Yamunā; prāptam—attained; bākam—a duck; daityam—demon; dadarśa—saw; ha—indeed.

English translation of verse 2.5.1:

Śrī Nārada said: One day, as He was herding the calves in the company of Balarāma and the boys, Kṛṣṇa saw a great duck demon by the Yamunā's shore.
