Meaning of Advaita

The prefix, “na”/“a” in Sanskrit gives six different meanings. Three of them are important:—

(i) Absence (inmai)—just like mala and amala as well asguna and nirguna

(ii) Opposition (marudalai)—just like dharma and adharma as well as shuddha and Ashuddha

(iii) Reciprocal difference (anmai)—just like ashva [ashvam] and anashva [anashvam].
