This page relates ‘Jatukarna (Ayurveda scholar)’ found in the study on diseases and remedies found in the Atharvaveda and Charaka-samhita. These texts deal with Ayurveda—the ancient Indian Science of life—which lays down the principles for keeping a sound health involving the use of herbs, roots and leaves. The Atharvaveda refers to one of the four Vedas (ancient Sanskrit texts encompassing all kinds of knowledge and science) containing many details on Ayurveda, which is here taken up for study.

Jatukarṇa (Āyurveda scholar)

Jatukarṇa–He was one of the six disciples of Punarvasu Ātreya. His period maybe 1000 BC. He wrote a treatise known as Jatukarṇa Tantra but it is not available now, it was available at the time of Cakrapāṇi.

Jejjata, Cakrapāṇi, Dalhaṇa, Arunadatta, Vijayarakṣita, Śrīkaṇṭhadatta, Śivadās Sen etc. Ācāryas quoted the reference of Jatukarṇa which proves that he was a great scholar of Āyurveda. As per the reference of Śatapatha-Brāhmaṇa, Jatukarṇa was the pro-pounder of Brāhmavidyā[1].
