The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

तत्किमर्थमनर्थाय निरर्थकमपार्थकाः ।
कस्मादभ्युदिता ब्रूहि रागद्वेषभयादयः ॥ ६५ ॥

tatkimarthamanarthāya nirarthakamapārthakāḥ |
kasmādabhyuditā brūhi rāgadveṣabhayādayaḥ || 65 ||

Then tell me why and whence the feelings and passions, such as anger and affection, hate and fear, take their rise; all which are of no good to any body, but rather pernicious to many.
