The Vaisheshika-sutra 1.1.10, English translation, including commentaries such as the Upaskara of Shankara Mishra, the Vivriti of Jayanarayana-Tarkapanchanana and the Bhashya of Chandrakanta. द्रव्याणि द्रव्यान्तरमारभन्ते गुणाश्च गुणान्तरम् ॥ १.१.१० ॥

dravyāṇi dravyāntaramārabhante guṇāśca guṇāntaram || 1.1.10 ||

dravyāṇi—Substances; dravyāntaram—another Substance; arabhante—originate; guṇāḥ—Attributes; ca—and; guṇāntaram—another Attribute.

Commentary: The Upaskāra of Śaṅkara Miśra:

The Resemblance in respect of the characteristic of being the originators of cogeners [congeners?] should be understood or observed with the exclusion of universal Substances composed of final parts, the Attributes of what are composed of final parts, and also the Attributes of Duality, the Separateness of Duals, Priority, Posteriority, etc. Or the author means to indicate the possession of the upādhi or condition which distinguishes predicables having the function of that which originates its congener, whereby Substances and individuals which are not causes, are also included.—10.
