Summary: The English translation of the Bhagavata Purana, one of the eighteen major puranas containing roughly 18,000 verses written in Sanskrit shloka format. This book covers a wide range of topics, including ancient Indian geography, history, religion, philosophy, mythology, etc. The Bhagavatapurana is interpreted by various schools of thought, e.g., Shankara, Ramanuja, Madhva, Nimbarka Vallabha and Chaitanya (Gaudiya Vaishnavism).

This edition includes annotations (footnotes) and the translation is based on the Sanskrit text of the Messrs Ksemaraja Srikrsnadasa (Khemraj Shrikrishnadas Shri Venkateshwar Press, Bombay).

The Bhagavata-Purana is also spelled as Bhāgavatapurāṇa (भागवतपुराण), Bhāgavatamahāpurāṇa (भागवतमहापुराण, bhagavatamahapurana), Śrīmad Bhāgavatam (श्रीमद् भागवतम्, shrimad bhagavatam, srimad).
