The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.8.67; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

स्मर्यमाणत्वे, यथा —
स एष वैहासिकता-विनोदैर्
व्रजस्य हासोद्गम-संविधाता ।
फणीश्वरेणाद्य विकृष्यमाणः
करोति हा नः परिदेवनानि ॥४.८.६७॥

smaryamāṇatve, yathā —
sa eṣa vaihāsikatā-vinodair
vrajasya hāsodgama-saṃvidhātā |
phaṇīśvareṇādya vikṛṣyamāṇaḥ
karoti hā naḥ paridevanāni
||4.8.67||

English translation

Memories producing conflicting rasas (hāsya and karuṇa):
“He used to make us laugh by comical pastimes. But today, being pulled away by Kāliya and suffering in pain, He is making us lament.”
