The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.1.28; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. यस्य हासः स चेत् क्वापि साक्षान् नैव निबध्यते ।
तथाप्य् एष विभावादि-सामर्थ्याद् उपलभ्यते ॥४.१.२८॥

yasya hāsaḥ sa cet kvāpi sākṣān naiva nibadhyate |
tathāpy eṣa vibhāvādi-sāmarthyād upalabhyate
||4.1.28||

English translation

“If the person instigating hāsya is not directly discernable, that person can be understood by by the similarity of the vibhāva and other elements with other cases.”
