Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वेदशास्त्रपुराणोक्ताः पञ्चैता गतयः स्मृताः ।
त्वत्प्रसादाद्धि लभ्यन्ते न लभ्यन्तेऽन्यथा विभो ॥ ६५ ॥

vedaśāstrapurāṇoktāḥ pañcaitā gatayaḥ smṛtāḥ |
tvatprasādāddhi labhyante na labhyante'nyathā vibho || 65 ||
